Course Description: Understand social studies concepts, vocabularies and skills.  In this course we will study Islamic Civilization, Europe, < xml="true" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" prefix="st1" namespace="">African Kingdoms, Meso-America and Japan during the period of 600-1600.

Goals and Objectives 

The primary goal of social studies education is to help you become well-informed, contributing citizens in a global community.  An understanding of the past is fundamental to an understanding of the present.  History also combines the excitement of exploration and discovery with making sense of complex and challenging problems.

Evaluation of Work

Students will be evaluated with written assignments, essays, presentations, research projects, participation, quizzes and tests. 

 

Missed Work Policy

·        Assignments are due at the beginning of class. 

·        Late work will be taken up to one week after progress reports are sent out; penalty up to 80% credit.

·        When a student is absent, he/she MUST see teacher regarding missed work.

Consequences and Discipline

Breaking classroom rules will result in the following steps: verbal warning, minutes assigned, minutes owed, call home, and referral to principal.

 

*Minutes will replace detentions and will be counted towards grade.

 

Supplies and Materials

Separate space in binder for social studies, pencils, textbook and daily learning materials.
