EDUCATION: I went to the University of Washington and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Cultural Anthropology. It was attending college in Seattle, that I met my bestfriend of today, grew into myself, and found at least one calling in life, to become a teacher for social justice. After I graduated, I moved to Bellingham and served with Americorps for a year before enrolling in a graduate program at Western Washington University. I did not always know that I wanted to become a teacher. It took three year of college at UW before arriving at that decision. In 2004, I enrolled in Western's Master's In Teaching program, with an emphasis in multicultural education. I don't regret any of the student loans I had to borrow in order to pay for college and neither should you!
INTERESTS: I love the following and this is a limited list: swimming, biking, running, gardening, music (all varieties, mostly hip-hop), reading, making "found art" projects, general projects, cleaning (a bit too much), hanging out with friends, teaching, camping/backpacking, TRAVEL, photography, interior decoration, SHOES, documentaries, learning intersting facts, GOOD FOOD, cooking, soccer, CSI, planet earth, factory production, dogs, trying new things, random adventures, walking on mudd flats, living life...
MY TEACHING STYLE: I am fun (funny/sarcastic), energetic, and passionate. I am mostly organized but part of my personality is making sure that I am flexible and adaptable to the needs of my students. I strongly believe in cooperative learning, creative assessment, and uncovering the "lost" voices in history. There are times to buckle down and focus and then there are other times to really delve into the history in fun and exciting ways.
SAMPLE LESSONS & ACTIVITIES: brochures, newsletters, scenarios and simulations, "raps", creating maps/charts/graphs, inquiry-based learning, research projects, current events, media studies, political cartoons, poetry, comic strips, deliberations/discussion, journaling, book making, interviewing experts, guest speakers, drama-role play, cross-word puzzles, and much, much more...
